In a previous blog, I wrote about Holistic Management International board member Sallie Calhoun’s observations that human ingenuity could help ecosystems be more resilient. I love this concept that humans are agents of solutions and more emerging solutions, rather than primarily creators and perpetrators of problems. For one thing, it sounds way more fun and rewarding and inspiring. For another, I like the idea of passing off a beautiful healthy planet to future generations.
So my heart goed pitter patter when Sallie speaks in this video about figuring out how to manage every acre on the planet to sequester carbon. I can start with my garden and gradually expand out to our property’s 310 acres. I can talk to my neighbours and city planners about it and see who else is keen. When I hear news about climate change, I’ll feel so much better knowing I’m doing what I can.
If you’d like to learn more about managing your yard, garden, ranch or other land for carbon, click on the links below to the other clips in this series for more on carbon sequestration, ecological health and profitability. It takes money and other resources to manage land well; Holistic Management is one effectively methodology to take this into account for sustainable land, business and life management.
I believe most of us don’t want to fiddle like Nero did as Rome burned while climate change sets in. How much more rewarding to play beautiful music against a backdrop of a beautiful and healthy ecosystem, in which we play a supporting role.
Note: In this vid, Sallie mentions Holistic Management’s Four Ecosystem Processes. They are: the biological community, the water cycle, the mineral cycle and the energy flow.
This video is the final in a series of five interview clips with former Holistic Management board chair, 7000-acre Paicine Ranch co-owner and businesswoman Sallie Calhoun.
